Did David Letterman really just say that? What a sexist ass wipe!

So I was just watching TV and there was a clip from the David Letterman Show on. Regis was dressed up like Shrek and made an impromptu appearance on the show. While interviewing Regis/ Shrek, Letterman actually said, "Why don't you and I get a couple of whores?"

WHAT?!? When I saw the clip on TV, I thought I must have misunderstood. So I went on YouTube, and sure enough, that's what he said. First of all, why did he even say this? It was completely random and out of context. Second, I cannot believe he had the audacity to refer to women as "whores." Women in the sex industry are victims, plain and simple. To degrade these women by labeling them as whores and then making a joke about having sex with them is appalling. Why don't we get some whores? Really? You really just said that? These women are treated as jokes to men, literally, and then they are purchased for male amusement. All women are human beings! Not animals or slaves used to entertain men.

Worst of all, everybody laughed at this. The audience found this to be soooo funny. What if Letterman would have said this instead: "Why don't we go find some women who were likely to have been sexually abused as children and as a result have psychological problems, and probably have drug dependency issues too, because they started using drugs to numb the pain of living as a prostitute. Let's go get these women, and pay them to sleep with us. Not because we respect and love them, but because they are whores and we are men and we can take advantage of victimized women."

Would the audience think that was a hoot? I would hope not, but I guess the word "whore" is funny to people. And out of the entire 2.5 minute interview, why was this 3o seconds used as the highlight on entertainment television? Because people think it was the funniest joke of the interview. That is so sickening. Making jokes about getting whores? Excuse my language, but what a fucking piece of shit. David Letterman is complete jack ass and I have no respect for him.

Here's the clip. He says it around 1:05.

The Axe effect? Dream on, losers.

These commercials are so ridiculous. According to Axe, attractive women's only criteria when selecting a sexual partner is whether or not he is wearing Axe cologne.

I don't want to burst any bubbles here, but hundreds of thin, beautiful women with huge boobs wearing bikinis are not going to bombard you for sex just because you are wearing Axe. I get that this is supposed to be funny, but that's the worst part. Apparently, women are so easy all it takes is something as stupid as cologne to get them in bed. And it just reinforces the male's skewed notion that hundreds of women are dying to have sex with him. Hardly.

Imagine if the tables were turned, and hundreds of men with huge penises wearing speedos were begging to have sex with a woman because she was wearing Chanel No. 5. Seems like a pretty creepy commercial, right?

This is a disturbing message

I believe this image was intended to deter men from buying sex during the war. Was this supposed to be a good message, because I find it to be very offensive.

First, labeling prostitutes as spreaders of syphilis and gonorrhea takes a lot of nerve. How do these women get these STDs in the first place? By the sleaze bag men who are buying sex from them. Men spread syphilis and gonorrhea to prostitutes, just as prostitutes spread it to men. This is a sexist way of making men look like upstanding civilians, and women as disease spreading whores.

What's most disturbing is that they are using an STD as a deterrent during the war. That's a good deterrent, but why not tell the truth? This is what is should read: Men who know say no to prostitutes...because they are probably kidnapped as young girls, sold to a brothel, beaten, starved, and forced to have sex with up to 40 men a day. Men who know do not participate in sexual slavery! The sick thing is, most men would care more about the STD, rather than the victimization of a human being.

Why do women oppress themselves?

Many people, both men and women, like to believe that women are not being exploited against their will. They think that women who prostitute, strip, make porn, or act promiscuously like doing what they are doing, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it. And that if women don't want to be exploited and purchased by men, they should stop putting themselves up for sale. If you don't like stripping for money, then find another job. If you don't like sleeping with men for money, then do something else.

These ideas are so common it's frightening. Just think about it. Why would a woman want to lie underneath a disgusting creep who treats her like a product and have sex with him? Why would a woman want to dehumanize herself by taking off her clothes for random perverts who treat her like a piece of meat? These are not appealing career choices, but they are common ones. Why?

There are several reasons, but generally, this is what I believe: we live in a patriarchal society where men are the authority. It is natural for anyone to want to be accepted, and submitting to a man's desire is a way of gaining his approval. Especially since the subjection of women has been such a strong tradition, women are continuing with the tradition. Women want to be liked by men, just as most people want to be liked by the person in charge, and being liked by men means selling your body to them. It's a vicious cycle. Until patriarchy is dead, women will always seek approval from men, or the authority. But patriarchy will never die until women stop objectifying themselves.

I remember reading in a different blog that patriarchy is like Stockholm syndrome, where hostages become loyal to their hostage-takers. This seems right on the money to me.

There are other reasons why women are participating in their own oppression, such as being physically forced to do so. Many prostitutes are held against their will and are forced into sexual slavery by their pimps. They are kidnapped, beaten, and sold to brothels. Or pimps will recruit very vulnerable young girls, create a bond, and coerce her into prostitution as a means of showing loyalty to the relationship. After all, he was there when she needed him, and now he needs her to make them some money. Sex trafficking is a very horrific crime and I will blog about it separately, in greater depth.

Also, most women who are strippers or work in the sex industry are survivors of childhood sexual abuse. These women have been traumatized and have severe psychological problems. They go on to have unhealthy views of sexuality. "Often as adults they reenact their childhood trauma by working as strippers, Playboy models, and prostitutes. The men who, now as customers, physically and visually invade the adult women's bodies, reenact the role of the perpetrator. These women work in the sex industry because it feels like home." - obscenitycrimes.org.

So, to everyone who thinks women want to be treated as sex objects, please reconsider.
